Abu Dhabi, UAE, May 2019: Integrated healthcare provider, Capital Health, has opened the region’s first
purpose-built hospital, the Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital (SRH) – a move geared towards reducing
the socioeconomic burden of sending patients and their families overseas for treatment.
The launch of the 160-bed hospital is in line with the UAE's vision of offering world-class healthcare and
comes amid rising cases of patients in the UAE who have to endure long-distance travel in search of
quality treatment.
This new development now gives UAE residents access to the highest quality healthcare services,
including acute, post-acute and long-term rehabilitation.
The launch of SRH, underscores its commitment to ease the burden facing over 700,000 patients, as per
a study conducted by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health, that require outpatient rehabilitation services
and over 4,000 inpatients that are in dire need of rehabilitation treatment. According to the study, this
number is expected to rise to 5,865 patients requiring 466 beds.
Dr. Mishal Al Kasimi, CEO of Capital Health, said, “One of our key aims with SRH is to reduce
the number of UAE nationals travelling overseas for medical treatment which they could receive
at home – this has a significant social-economic impact on the emirate.” He added, “The
hospital will include everything a rehab patient may need, including speech, physical and
occupational therapy; five multi-disciplinary gymnasiums; physical medication doctors; and
trainers.”
He continued, “Through SRH, Capital Health is playing an integral role in supporting Abu Dhabi
Department of Health's quest to provide UAE residents with access to the highest quality
healthcare services in the capital. The facility is also set to play a pivotal role in in boosting
medical tourism to the emirate – an integral part of Abu Dhabi’s 2030 Vision to diversify its
economy.” He added, “We measure the progress of our efforts against the highest worldwide
standards, those frameworks which were created and still pioneered by our affiliate The Shirley
Ryan AbilityLab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago).”
The hospital features a dedicated Pediatrics floor, Hydrotherapy suites as well as Bayt Al Qudra™
endurance suites that are equipped with the latest in robotics, bionics and virtual reality treatment.
“The hospital will include everything a patient may need, including speech, physical and occupational
therapy, five multi-disciplinary gymnasiums, physical medication doctors and trainers,” said Dr. Mishal.
As part of its long-term objective, SRH plans to modernize rehabilitative medicine across the Middle East
based on a best-in-class global practice that gives science-backed hope to patients. Located along Abu
Dhabi’s Old Airport Road, it will also adequately serve the needs of UAE residents, grow medical tourism
as well as reduce pressure on public finances, which will provide a boost to the overall economy.
