Brain Foods for Kids: Top 5 Foods You Must Add to Your Kid’s Diet

It’s back to school time! This year why not empower your kids and encourage them to take good care of their health, and be mindful of what they eat. Inculcating healthy eating habits is extremely important and much better when done at a young age. Keeping this in mind most parents these days understand and try their best to ensure that their child enjoys a regular balanced diet.

However, we all know that, this is easier said than done. You eventually find yourself force feeding your teary eyed kid just to ensure they get their share of fundamental vitamins and nutrient. The end result leaves you exhausted and your child unhappy with half eaten food which is sure not to render any benefits.

Your child’s diet also has a great influence on his intelligence and brain development. The right foods can increase their brain function, memory, and concentration.

While there are plenty of foods that can improve brain health, the experts from India Gate KRBL have outlined some of the top foods that can strengthen your child’s brain power today, and enhance brain health for tomorrow.

  • Almonds

Almonds are a superfood and highly nutritious. They are rich in a vitamins and minerals such as zinc, protein and vitamin E – which helps in repairing brain cell, thus promoting brain health and improve memory. Soak almonds in water overnight and give to your children early morning. Alternatively, you can add them into various recipes such as salads, casseroles etc.

  • Quinoa

This protein-rich super food contains all the essential amino acids, especially lysine, which plays a key role in regulating stress and anxiety. It also contains antioxidants and a small amount of Omega-3 fatty acids.

  • Blueberries

Blueberries are ranked among the healthiest fruits. Along with many other berries including strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, they are packed full of nutrients such as vitamin C and manganese and help maintain brain function, reduce oxidative damage to the brain cells and improve the memory of your children.

  • Chia seeds

They are rich in fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates, antioxidants and calcium. While carbohydrates, fibre and calcium do not help or hinder memory, antioxidants and omega-3 certainly boost brain power. Antioxidants are known to increase blood flow to the brain which improves memory. Omega-3 fatty acids keep your brain free from plaque and help brain cells communicate with one another.

  • Flax seeds

Like chia seeds, flaxseed is rich in omega-3 fatty acids too. Specifically it is high in a type of omega-3 called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which has been strongly linked to brain health.
